DELE Exam Preparation and Levels
DELE Spanish Diplomas are official titles granted by Spain’s Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport that certify a level of competence and mastery of the Spanish language.
The Instituto Cervantes organizes examination sessions, while the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain creates the exams and is in charge of corrections and final exam evaluation.

There are Six levels of DELE Spanish diplomas:
- Spanish Diploma Level A1 (Breakthrough): –
The Spanish Diploma Level A1 (Breakthrough) attests to the student’s ability to communicate in basic Spanish in scenarios involving urgent demands or commonplace occurrences.
- Spanish Diploma Level A2 (Way stage): –
Spanish Diploma Level A2 (Way stage) verifies that the applicant is able to comprehend ordinary, everyday expressions and phrases connected to fields of experience that are especially pertinent to them (basic information about themselves and their families, shopping, places of interest, work, etc.).
- Spanish Diploma Level B1 (threshold): –
Certify the candidate’s ability to understand the main ideas of texts clearly, in standard language, if they relate to well-known topics related to work, study or leisure. It also certifies students’ ability to deal with most situations that arise when traveling to Spanish-speaking areas. produce simple and coherent texts on familiar topics or topics of personal interest; and finally be able to describe experiences, events, wishes, and hopes, as well as be able to briefly express opinions or explain plans.
- Spanish Diploma Level B2 (Vantage): –
certifies students’ abilities to interact with native speakers with enough spontaneity and fluency to allow for easy and natural communication between interlocutors; produce concise and in-depth texts about a variety of subjects; defend an opinion about broad subjects, stating the benefits and drawbacks of each argument; and finally, comprehend the main ideas of complex texts about both concrete and abstract subjects, including technical texts.
- Spanish Diploma Level C1 (Effective Operational Skills): –
Demonstrate sufficient language proficiency to understand a large number of long and sometimes demanding texts and to grasp the implicit meanings contained therein. Express yourself fluently and naturally without searching for the right words. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic, and professional purposes. And finally, you will be able to use the mechanisms of text composition, clarity, and cohesion correctly to produce clear, well-structured, and detailed texts on subjects of some complexity.
- Spanish Diploma Level C2 (Mastery): –
demonstrates the capacity to quickly and accurately adapt to any environment while attesting to having sufficient linguistic proficiency to communicate successfully in any setting. The language users exhibit delicate nuance control, enabling fluid and organic expression in all interactions.

How to Get the DELE exam scores?
Candidates will receive their DELE exam results three months after the written tests are completed. The Instituto Cervantes will notify candidates of the publication of their scores via the e-mail address they provided when registering.
In their restricted access to the Instituto Cervantes portal, candidates will be able to view their official transcript of marks.
Candidates who receive an APTO overall grade will be awarded a diploma by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.
Candidates who disagree with their grade may submit a grade review request using the form found on the Instituto Cervantes exams portal. Following an investigation procedure, the Instituto Cervantes will proceed to inform the candidate of the case’s ultimate resolution within a maximum of three months.

Candidates wishing to take an examination leading to a DELE Spanish Diploma will need to do the following:

Register for the exam
Registration for exams must be carried out online (for exams taken in Spain) or at an examination center (for exams taken outside of Spain). Young Learners will always register at the examination center, regardless of their location.

You will need a scanned copy of a photo ID that includes your name, nationality, place, and date of birth. The information provided during registration must match that on the identification document.

The registration receipt you received via email after registering. You can print the receipt and bring the printed copy or show it on your cell phone.

WHEN WILL I GET MY CERTIFICATE?
You’ll receive your certificate a few months after taking the exam. The certificate will be sent to the address you provided at registration.
HOW MANY PARTS DOES THE EXAM HAVE?
The DELE exam tests are divided into different groups, depending on the level. Each test includes various tasks, and encompass the following skill sets:

3. Listening comprehension
